01In short
I'm OK is designed to be as simple and as privacy-friendly as possible. In particular, the app:
- requires no registration
- has no user account
- uses no server
- shows no ads
- uses no analytics
- uses no tracking
- uses no push notifications
- does not use Firebase
- sends no data to the operator
- does not track location in the background
All app settings are stored locally on the user's device only.
02How the app works
After the initial setup, the user chooses one or two close contacts they want to send the “I'm OK” message to.
When the “I'm OK” button is pressed, the app gets the device's current location and opens the native SMS app with a pre-filled message and a link to the map.
The message is always sent by the user. The app never sends the SMS automatically without the user's confirmation.
03What data the app uses
Selected contacts
The app may ask for access to contacts so the user can conveniently pick the person they want to send the “I'm OK” message to.
The app stores only the details needed to send the message, such as the name and phone number of the selected contact. Contacts are not sent anywhere and are not shared with the app operator or with any third parties.
Location
The app may ask for access to the device's location. Location is used only after the “I'm OK” button is pressed, so it can be inserted into the prepared SMS message as a map link.
The app does not track location in the background. Location is not stored on a server and is not sent to the app operator.
App settings
The app stores settings locally on the device, for example:
- selected contacts,
- the chosen map provider,
- the app language,
- accessibility settings,
- an optional PIN lock for settings.
This data stays on the user's device.
PIN lock
If the user enables the settings PIN lock, the app stores the required data securely on the device using the system's secure storage. The PIN is not sent to the app operator.
04What the app does not collect
In particular, the app does not collect or send the operator:
- current or historical location,
- the contact list,
- the content of SMS messages,
- the user's phone number,
- device identifiers used for tracking,
- usage analytics,
- advertising identifiers,
- diagnostic data,
- crash reports.
05Data sharing
The app does not share any data with the app operator or with third parties.
The only exception is when the user themselves sends the prepared SMS message to a selected contact. In that case the message content is sent through the mobile carrier and the native SMS app on the user's phone.
06Children and minors
The app is designed to be simple for children aged 12 and over, teenagers, seniors, and users with specific needs.
The app is not intended for tracking children. It does not track location in the background and does not send it to parents automatically. The app only lets the user prepare a message to their chosen contacts with a single button.
07Deleting data
Data stored by the app can be removed by:
- deleting or resetting the app settings, if that option is available in the app,
- or uninstalling the app from the device.
Because the app uses no server and no user accounts, the operator holds no user data that could be deleted from a server on request.
08Security
The app stores settings locally on the device only. More sensitive data, such as data related to the PIN lock, is stored using the device's secure system storage.
The app does not transfer data to the operator's server.
09Limitations of the app
I'm OK is not an emergency service
I'm OK is not an emergency service, a security monitoring service, a tracking app, or a substitute for calling 112 or your local emergency number.
Delivery of the SMS message depends on the mobile carrier, signal availability, phone settings, and the user confirming the send.
